Electoral Atlas of the
Spanish Second Republic
1931 · 1933 · 1936
Mapping democracy at the
municipal level
This atlas presents the results of the three general elections held during the Spanish Second Republic (1931–1939) at the municipality level. By mapping electoral geography across all of Spain, it reveals the territorial patterns of political support — and the profound divisions that shaped the Republic's fate.
The data covers over 9,000 municipalities across the three elections of April 1931, November 1933, and February 1936, allowing comparison of political shifts across regions, coalitions, and time.
The founding election. A landslide for republican and socialist forces brought an end to the monarchy and established the Second Republic.
The first election with women's suffrage. A divided left allowed the CEDA and the Radicals to form a centre-right government.
The left reunited under the Popular Front narrowly defeated the National Front. The result was disputed and preceded the Civil War.
